Meet Boston Marathoner, Lynn!
You might say that running marathons - specifically, the Boston Marathon - runs in the family for Lynn Cousineau who works at FUJIFILM Electronic Material in Rhode Island. After over 36 years since crossing the famous finish line, Lynn is gearing up for his second marathon on the legendary race course: this time, with his speedy daughter, Shayna (pictured below)!
In 1988, when the total number of runners was 8,000 and only 800 of those were women, Cousineau ran Boston for his first time. As a cross country runner in high school, and later running competitively in college and the military, he always wanted to race in Boston. He quickly qualified and hit his goal of finishing strong on Boylston Street in Boston, MA over three decades ago.
In 2017, when Lynn volunteered to become a bodyfit trainer and Cameron found out about Lynn’s history with Boston and strong running skills, conversation began about the possibility of Lynn doing Boston again! Heavily encouraged by Cameron, Lynn started focused training and competing again in half marathons. With an added incentive of the Suitcase of Courage covering his race entry to Boston if he qualified, Lynn signed up for his qualifying marathon and earned a spot at Boston in 2025!
If you can imagine, this much training and running doesn’t come without challenges. Lynn shared,
“There were two key things I had to overcome: calf issues and a mental block of how difficult it is on the body to run 26 miles. The first issue was solved when I met a therapeutic massage therapist who broke up all of the scar tissue in my leg muscles from all the accumulated years of running. The second, I was able to overcome by having a great training block through this past winter and being able to run a few 20 milers with my daughter.”
Lynn’s daughter, Shayna has run Boston the past two years and also qualified for 2025 with impressive times!
“My favorite part of this journey is to be able to run with my daughter on a consistent basis. This journey has formed a strong bond between us.”
In addition to running, Lynn enjoys teaching his bodyfit classes and focusing on circuit training. He loves staying active and moving, often playing tennis and walking with his family.
Thank you Lynn for being such an inspiration and sharing your passion with those around you! We wish you and Shayna the absolute best in your training and Boston Marathon in April!
“On a scale of 1-10, you're a 26.2!” :-)
